Let me tell you a little bit about ourselves. - Our anniversary is June 15th - im in college and home for the summer and she is still in high school (17) - she plays softball, and is all honors in music and academics. she loves music, the beach, and is very outgoing. - she has a fear of me going away to a college far away. but due to economic troubles for me, im coming back home this year for college (her senior year and will be commuting locally. i haven't told her yet (surprise) What to do: ok so far all i have planned is going to this park about 20 min. from us and prepare a picnic for us, and sit at a table on this rock overlooking a lake at the park. i also carved into a tree our anniversary date, but was reconsidering going back and making a stencil of our date and spray-painting it over a rock near the park table. but this is only for lunch probably like 12-2 or 3. im trying to think of what to do for the evening portion of our anniversary. What to get her: i was going to put my acceptance letter or my schedule or something for the local community college i will be transferring to in the fall that is right near where we both live. this is obviously just one part of my gift but i do not know what else to buy her. this past christmas i bought her a necklace with a musical treble clef note on it in diamonds, because she loves music. shes not too much into jewelry and wears it only on special occasions. im just looking for a meaningful gift here that she'll appreciate. shes a very reasonable girl and doesn't like all the glitz and glamor all the time on an everyday basis. verdict: 1) i need advice on what to do that day as far as places to go maybe or ideas of cute things she might like to do to make that day special. 2) i need ideas for gifts to get her for that day, one that she might like. and im going for cuteness mostly lol more

my boyfriend has a really good job; he makes a lot of money. (a LOT more than I make - I'm still in college and working at Best Buy part time) In the past year, he's bought a new car, a house, a new motorcycle, a new dirtbike, and a new Canon camera that was over $3000. he never spends any money on me. he says that he wants to save as much money as he can. (he has actually been saving a lot. his savings account is quite hefty now, which is fantastic for our future - and yes, we have been talking about our future together.) all of the money that he does spend is on himself. we hardly ever go on dates. For Valentine's day, he went to wal-mart the day of and bought me a cheap little teddy bear. i spent over $200 on his gift. he didn't make reservations, but tried to take me to Carrabbas. There was a 4 hour wait, so we ended up going to Buffalo Wild Wings. for our 1 year anniversary, he got me a $15 panera gift card and 3 roses, not even in a vase or anything, just in one of those plastic sleeve things. once again, i spent over $200 on his gift. We didn't even go on a date to celebrate our anniversary. I asked him if we could go on a date, and suggested a place near his house. it's $40 a person and I suggested that we share a meal, making it $20 a person. he complained about that being too expensive, so i backed off from the idea and we never went. he doesn't ever want me to spend money on him, so i guess his idea is that we just buy stuff for ourselves, and not for each other. so should i just adjust my expectations, or talk to him and ask him to start spending money on me? it's not that i'm asking for diamond necklaces and designer purses, but a $40 dinner date doesn't seem unreasonable to me for a 1 year anniversary. if i do talk to him about it, how do i go about that without seeming greedy? i feel greedy even asking this question. besides this issue, our relationship is amazing. we've been best friends for 7 years, and the physical chemistry definitely a 15 out of 10 - fireworks for sure! he's so sweet, and i want nothing more than to spend the rest of my life with him, but i am becoming increasingly frustrated with him about this. more

Resolved Question: Shouldn't my hubby put our marriage and me first?

Married for 3 yrs. My daughter is grown and on her own. His kids are 17 and 15. They come to our house every Friday around 4PM and stay until Sunday around 7PM. When they are here we do whatever they want, go out to eat where ever they want and watch what they want on tv. If the kids dont want to attend family functions with my side of the family then my hubby will stay home with them. He will not leave the 15 yr old boy home alone. He will only leave him if his sibiling is there with him but yet this boy wants his permit and wants us to buy him a car to drive. Hubby fixes these kids plate for breakfast, lunch and dinner, cleans up after them and when he wakes up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom he checks on the 15 yr old but not the other one. He cuddles with the 15 yr old. They are stuck together like glue. My hubby will make plans for them to go on weekend fishing trips and tells me "you can go if you want too" but refuses to go away with me for a weekend alone. We dont go out to dinner on the weekends, no movies, no bowling, nothing for ourself or our marriage as a couple. Hubby says we have our time during the week. We both get home from work around 6PM and are in bed by 9PM. Friends will ask us to join them for a couples weekend and he wont go unless the kids are invited. Hubby will go to the movies if the kids suggest it but if I want to go he ignores me. We do nothing special for our birthdays or anniversary. He wouldn't even take the kids back to their mother for our wedding night, they stayed here with us. I wanted my hubby to take a Monday off so we could have a honeymoon and go away for a few days. He told me he couldn't miss work however on that same Monday he learned the kids didnt have school and he called off to spend the day with them. If there is no school on Friday or Monday the kids stay longer with us. According to their mother, the kids hate my guts. I have been nothing but nice to them. Added on my house to accomodate them, went out of my for them and went along with all their plans and tried to be friends with each of them. Only to be treated with disrespect and rude comments about me being nothing to them. One time a friend asked me what was the most important thing to me in my hubby and the 15 yr old said "my dads wallet". Hubby never seems to hear these comments or he will say they are only jokin with you. They dont say thank you for gifts and his daughter told her friends how bad she hated me on the computer. The way I feel, these kids are far from babies and they need to know and understand that I am their dads wife and will be treated with respect. He needs to put me first ONCE IN AWHILE and he needs to stop babying the 15 yr old. Are we suppose to do nothing for the next 3 yrs because he cant stay home by himself for a few hours while we go out? When do I come first? Enough is enough!!!Regarding the wallet issue-I work full time and our money goes to a joint acount. Right now, hubby has been laid off since October 2009. more

My girlfriend's sweet sixteen is in eight days but I'm not really sure what to buy her that would appropriate. I want to try and avoid clothing of any kind because you never really know when someone likes clothing, and when you get clothing as a gift you feel forced to wear it whether you like it or not. She is more of the class president type. Shes not really nerdy, preppy, or into sports, very responsible but is still kind of goofy and immature around friends. She's very girly but I wouldn't feel comfortable getting like a super feminine gift because that is sort of weird for a 15 year old. This is the best I can describe her personality so I hope you can get at least a general idea for a fitting gift. Her birthday also happens to be our 3 month anniversary and since we haven't been dating really long I don't want to be too personal or spend more than $20-$30. A friend of mine had a 10 year anniversary of his death party for her son who died from a surfing accident. She invited me, but said a few times that it was okay if I didn't go, so I took her word for it, YET, I told her I would be there. The celebration was about an hour & 15 minutes away. I didn't go and didn't call her. I had a hangover, and she knew I went out the night before. I felt that since she seemed to stress the unimportance of me going, that it would be okay if I did. Well, today she posted on my Facebook, "Nice to see you Saturday. Oh, wait, you weren't there." I am positive she is upset, and I should have known she would be as she is very sensitive to those things. I had a brother who I lost around the same time she did, but we weren't friends at the time. I never met her son, but I've met her whole family. Am I a horrible person? I apologized today via email after I saw her Facebook message. What can I do to make it up to her?
