Usually I can trust family to borrow my things, but my stepsister brought my King's Quest collection for windows XP back to me smelling of rubbing alcohol, as if she'd dunked it in the stuff and left it to sit. Being a philosopher is not just having deep thoughts, but actually loving wisdom and solving problems in life, not only theoretically but practically. Henry David Thoreau was an American author, philosopher and naturalist who was part of the Transcendentalist movement. Thoreau's greatest impact is the influence he had on later non-violent protestors. His idea of nonviolence combined with refusal to go along with what is wrong inspired later leaders of reform movements. Including the civil rights movement in America which is why he is the most influential person in American history. No truer American existed than Thoreau. Thoreau left his home to go on a two-year experiment in simple living on July 4th 1845. He moved to a small, self-built cabin on the shores of Walden Pond. Thoreau wanted to live his life deliberately, as he explains in Walden “I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived.” On July 25th 1846 Thoreau ran into the local tax collector, who asked him to pay six years of deliberately unpaid poll taxes. Thoreau refused and also refused to let the tax collector pay his taxes for him. He was then taken to jail and spent only the night there because his aunt paid his taxes and he was released. He argued that since he wasn't the one to pay the taxes he still deserved to be in jail. The experience had a strong impact on Thoreau. Which lead Thoreau to write a very famous essay, Civil Disobedience (1849), which outlined Thoreau's defense for not paying his taxes. He was against the Mexican-American war and the practice of slavery. He believed paying taxes for these acts was a practice of injustice on his part. When faced with unjust laws Thoreau said people could “obey them, amend them, or transgress them.” There are several principles of civil disobedience, the first one is that you have respect for the law even as you are disobeying that law. The second principle of civil disobedience is a lot like the first, you should plead guilty to any violation of the law. Last but not least, You should attempt to convert your opponent by showing the justice of your cause. Active nonviolence doesn't try, as Gandhi says, “to defeat or humiliate your opponents, but to win their friendship and understanding.” Transcendentalists were a generation of well educated people struggling to define spirituality and religion in a way that took into account the new understanding of their age. They wanted to create a uniquely American collection of literature. It was already decades after Americans had won their independence from England and now these people thought it was time for literary independence as well. They went around creating literature that was clearly different from anything found in any other European nation. Most of the Transcendentalists became involved in social reform movements, especially anti-slavery and women's rights. Why social reform, and why these issues in particular? They believed that at the level of the human soul, all people had the access to divine inspiration and wanted and loved freedom, knowledge and truth. Transcendentalism is a quest for truth. This is one of the main ideas of transcendentalists, Thoreau wrote extensively about it. Thoreau said, "Rather than love, than money, than fame, give me truth." Truth is anything which a person judges to be correct out of their own intuition. And one of the best ways to find this truth is to communicate with Nature, and to search inside yourself. Transcendentalism stresses individual self-reflection and finds society as a whole to be a destructive force towards personal freedom. Another belief is that God can be found in all things, especially Nature. Going to church or some other place of worship is not needed, all that is needed is to be in tune with one's self and the natural world. Materialism is also looked down upon, this degrades true life. When one gets caught up in having and taking care of possessions there's no time left to truly live. Thoreau's ideas and beliefs influenced many civil rights leaders from Ghandi to Martin Luther King Jr. Ghandi credits Thoreau with helping the abolition of slavery. Martin Luther King Jr. credits Thoreau with giving him his first experience at a non-violent protest. Because of his experience, Martin Luther King Jr. was inspired to become one of the most important civil rights leaders in our nation's history. One of the most important themes throughout Thoreau's work is the notion of individualism. Deeply skeptical of government, Thoreau rejects the view that a person must sacrifice or marginalize her values out of loyalty to her government. Tell me what you think: Two students embark on a nation-wide quest (fundraiser) for the Red Cross. The goal? 10 million dollars for the Red Cross. The process? Ask people in America to give one dollar (for logistical purposes, the only collection method would be online, through credit cards - collection boxes in stores or whatnot on a nation-wide level would be a huge undertaking). When I discovered that I couldn't sign in to Playstation Network on my PS3, I decided to play Fallout 3 offline. After a while I discovered that i wasn't receiving trophies for my quests, so I opened up my trophy collection and ALL of my Fallout 3 trophies were gone. The game didn't even show up at all on my trophy list anymore. Once all of this is solved will Sony be able to restore my lost trophies or will I have to earn them all again? Resolved Question: Why is DosBox so slow in Windows 7? Is there a better way to play DOS games?

I have "Space Quest Collection" which is supposedly compatible with Windows XP... it uses Dosbox to play the DOS games... welp I don't have XP but I thought Windows 7 was supposed to be just as compatible, but its super slow and choppy and sometimes has wigged out colors, so I downloaded "The Adventures of Willy Beamish" and Dosbox and it's just as bad! WTF?!?! These games were made like a hundred years ago. Why do they suck so bad on way faster computers? Okay, so ive been playing oblivion for a fair while and ive passsed the main quest. I have the complete oblivion collection with all the expansions on the one disc. But im not sure whether the expansions have been put into the game properly, because i dont think i have the shivering isles quest. Resolved Question: Sims 3; World Adventures...Is there a cheat to give you/ unlock gems or fruits you need to collect on quests?

I keep getting these annoying missions to look for a certain gem or mineral or fruit, specifically Aquamarine and Pomegranates in Egypt and unsmelted titanium and pallimonium or whatever it is, else where. They just don't show up no matter where I look, I'm sick of searching. I've looked for about 20 days in Eygpt for the stupid aquamarine around the pyramids WITH AND WITHOUT the collection helper tool and all I find is space rocks. I will literally go and collect every rock but nothing will reappear for a day and even then it's just big or small space rocks. When I go to France or China looking for minerals NOTHING pops up when I use the gems and rocks collection tool. I'm not looking anymore...I'm actually quite sure my game is bugged at this point. My (non-Hindu) colleague believes that Hinduism has no right to call itself a religion because it has not been "founded" through "revelation" in the same way that for example islam or zoroastrianism have. on the surface it looks like an obvious logical truism "if something is successful at making copies of itself, then there will be more of them. and if those copies are slightly different, then there will be more of the better ones". but it opens up a whole world of understanding the complexity of life we see around us, including ourselves. it makes their collection of family stories from the middle east that they call the bible seem just that, by comparison. Evolution is one of the most beautiful theories that man has claimed in his quest for truth and enlightenment, and while I mock christians, I'm touched with sadness at the understanding they have willfully forsaken. Does such a thing exist? also an emulator on a mac OS X Leopard platform to run windows 95 games would work considering im emulating vista on my macbook pro. Any solutions? I really want to play some hugos house of horrors but don't have a computer old enough. I found all of the XP remakes for the Kings Quest Collection and they work wonderfully as DosBox Applications. Any ideas please? more
